Planning Engineer - Job Description

Responsibilities

Carry out the following duties in consultation with the Planning Control Manager/ Project Manager:

1.      Understand work scope, quantity, logical sequences, contractual planning specifications and milestones.

2.      Prepare WBS structure, for scheduling, progress measurement.

3.      Coordinate schedule from multiple contractors and incorporate the information gathered into the overall project master schedule.

4.      Prepare resources loaded baseline schedules and overall master schedule integrating work breakdown structure using primavera p6. Prepare schedule bar chart plan considering all in puts (labor, equipment and materials) availability, production and construction sequences. Prepare and update project schedule based on the contract.

5.      Set work schedule and target milestones for each phase based on the project plan.

6.      Monitor critical activities based on the project schedule and advise project management.

7.      Prepares and submit updated work schedule and cash flow curve showing actual progress and identify areas of weakness and establishes means and methods for recovery, if any, as well as new critical activities.

8.      Monitor day to day work progress and prepare the weekly and monthly schedule and report.

9.      Maintain and record update of site work progress obtained from Project Manager.

10.    Prepares monthly report, weekly report and dashboard reflecting work progress summary.

11.    Report to the Project Manager about the current work progress and make comparison between plan and actual progress and study impact of alternative approaches to work.

12.    Participate in project meetings and discussions with the Client as required.

13.    Assists in preparing work schedule, cash flow and manpower histogram for tenders.

14.    Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

15.    Update and track schedules using earned value and critical path methods.

16.    Develop and update resource (manpower and equipment) histogram weekly or monthly as required

17.    Prepare issues/ risks register for action, document activities and record detail and feedback.

 

Skills & Qualifications

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

·         Ability to problem solve;

·         able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;

·         Well organized with a good sense of structure and ability to co-ordinate across a broad range of parallel activities;

·         Ability to manage diverse workload and multi-task efficiently;

·         Excellent command of written and spoken English;

·         Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 and MS Office schedules.

 

Educational Qualifications and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or MEP Engineering;

·         4-6 years’ experience in a similar position in construction preferably with a Contractor;
